Critical Considerations For First-Time Pickup Truck Buyers
Purchasing a pickup truck be a little confusing for someone who has only purchased a passenger car in the past. Buying a truck is not the same as buying a typical car or automobile. There are different things to consider when buying a pickup truck, as opposed to buying a sedan or van. This article takes a look at some of the most important considerations involved in purchasing a pickup.
Size
When buying a new pickup truck, you generally have the option of buying a mid-size truck or a full-size truck. Smaller compact trucks have been phased out by the industry and can generally only be found when buying used. In addition to the larger size, full-size trucks will offer you more power, as their engines will almost always have more horsepower that mid-size trucks.
The choice between these two made depends on several things, such as whether you will be hauling heavy loads on a regular basis. Your budget will also come into play, as a full-size truck tends to cost a good bit more than a mid-size pickup.
Towing
Another key consideration is towing capacity. If you plan on towing heavy loads, then you will need a truck with a higher towing capacity. For example, if you own a boat and will be towing it out to a lake or waterway on a regular basis, then clearly towing capacity need to be carefully considered.
Cab Size
Choosing the size of the cab is also a key part of selecting a pickup truck. Three options will typically be available: the regular cab, the extended cab and the crew cab. The regular cab is the smallest size and does not have any rear seats. The extended cab does have rear seats and may or may not have small rear doors to allow entry to the back seats. The crew cab is the largest size and will have four doors and a large seating space in the rear of the cab.
Bed Size
The size of the truck bed can be important if you haul a lot of heavy loads or transport lumber on a regular basis. Your main choices will be the short-bed, which ranges from six feet to six and a half long and the long-bed, which is from seven to eight feet long.
